Fabian is doing the first ever investigation of gene expression and methylation in BPD postmortem brain tissue. Similar research has been done in depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia with successful results. His aim is to uncover candidate genes involved in the etiology of BPD which could lead to novel treatments.

Dr. Jenna Traynor

Jenna Traynor, Ph.D. (2023-24 YI)

Jenna is testing new diagnostic tools to determine the level of suicidal thinking (mild to severe) in patients with BPD. This will help to determine if the patient needs generalized care (i.e., short-term partial hospitalization) or specialized care (i.e., long-term treatment with a specialist in BPD).

Dr. Sarah Fineberg, expert BPD Researcher

Sarah Fineberg, M.D., Ph.D. (2022-24 YI)

Sarah is investigating recovery in those with BPD to determine if the recovery involves that ability to make and update their beliefs about other people. Her thinking is that a lack of this social learning ability might contribute to symptoms of BPD. Computer games will be used to measure social learning in general and under stress. Her goal is to provide insight into difficulties that people with BPD have in regard to their interpersonal relationships.
