Author and Book

We recommend an inspiring new book by Dr. Blaise Aguirre, the Founding Director of 3East DBT Center at Harvard. It is called “I Hate Myself – Overcoming Self-Loathing and Realize Why You’re Wrong About You.”

So many people with BPD have intense self-hatred that they live with every day, non-stop. Dr. Aguirre says that self-hatred is there due to repetitive experiences which led a child to believe that they were flawed, unworthy, and unlovable. Not succeeding in school and getting labeled as stupid or unathletic, being bullied by peers, and having abusive teachers or invalidating parents are examples of these experiences.

Just think about it – no one is born hating themselves! Later, however, we have the power within ourselves to recognize who we truthfully are, and the capacity to change self-hatred to self-love. Dr. Aguirre’s book gives guidance along with exercises in changing something that many believe could never be changed.

Dr. Aguirre was interviewed about his book this past February on the MSNBC program, Morning Joe. Listen to the interview.
